Takeru Amano is a Japanese artist whose paintings reduce familiar cultural icons to bold outlines, flat colour and deceptively simple forms. Classical subjects such as Venus are recast through a contemporary visual language shaped by manga, design and urban culture.
Born in Tokyo in 1977, Amano grew up in an artistic environment as the son of illustrator Yoshitaka Amano. He spent time in New York before returning to Japan, absorbing influences from Western art, street culture and contemporary graphic imagery.
His best-known works depict female figures, flowers, animals and classical motifs with economical black lines and saturated backgrounds. By stripping away detail, Amano creates images that operate almost like logos while still retaining the irregularities and presence of painting.
Amano has exhibited internationally, particularly in Japan and Europe, and has collaborated with fashion and lifestyle brands. His accessible iconography and recognisable Venus motif have helped create a growing collector market spanning original paintings, sculpture and editions.
